Adult learn to swim

We are excited to announce we are continuing our new adult learn-to-swim classes!   Learning to swim is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself, allowing you to be confident in and around water, enjoying the freedom it gives you to play and swim alongside your children!   We acknowledge for some of you, this may be a big step!

We are starting a 10 week (1 x swim a week) course on October 6th - December 15th (incl), no lesson on 27 October for Labour Day. 

Fees are non-refundable, except in exceptional (long-term medical) circumstances, and at the discretion of Management.   A high level of attendance is recommended to ensure maximum benefit. Cap and goggles and appropriate swimwear are required. 

Paula Lindsay will be taking these classes.  Paula is a very experienced Learn-to-swim instructor and has previously been with Dolphin Academy as a part-time instructor, and more recently as a casual instructor, filling in when we need her.  She has previously taught adults to swim and is very excited to take on these classes for us.  Paula believes it is so important to empower adults with the skill of being able to swim or just being confident in the water. 

  We will ask that you fill in a form giving us more information about you and your experiences and goals.  (to be sent upon booking and returned before lessons start)

If you are unsure if you are a beginner or intermediate, please contact us for a quick assessment prior to booking.

*Intermediate classes - please book into your preferred time slot, but be aware, as the programme progresses, we may juggle you into the other session so we can ensure ability levels are grouped together. We ask that if you book, you are available between 7-8pm.

Intermediate (16+)*

For those adults who are comfortable in the water and can swim a short distance but have never been taught the correct technique, timing and breathing. 

We will work on developing your kick, body positioning and movement in the water, building up strength and technique in freestyle and backstroke strokes. The aim is to comfortably swimming full lengths of a 25m pool.

Please note this is a swimming LESSON, not swimming for fitness

  • 5:1 ratio (max)

  • Once a week on a Monday evening

  • Starts 6th October 2025

  • $280 for 10 lessons (+ $10 one off account set up fee for new customers + 3.45% surcharge if paying by credit card).

Beginner (16+)*

For those adults who have never experienced swimming before, or have very limited swimming ability or experience.

We will start with the basics, a real introduction to swimming. We will work on breath control, floating, submersion and confidence then developing your kick, body positioning and movement in the water.  Working on strength and technique of basic freestyle and backstroke in shallow water.

  • 10 x 30 min lessons

  • 4:1 ratio (max)

  • Once a week on a Monday evening

  • Starts 6th October 2025

  • $280 for 10 lessons (+ $10 one off account set up fee for new customers + 3.45% surcharge if paying by credit card).
